Painting on silk can be compared to painting on a wet piece of paper. It's hard to control the flow of the colors, the colors has it's own life!

Silk painting has become my big passion!

Silk
The silk fabric absorbs the light, conserves it and reflects it in it's own way. This will give the color a special, natural touch. There are many different types of silk. It's possible to extract a thread of silk that's over a kilometer long from a single butterfly cocoon! Silk is chosen from what the purpose with the finished product is when it's painted. Pongee silk is the easiest silk to work with and it's relatively cheap to buy. This type of silk is also reffered to as Pai.

Colors
When I paint i'm using so called pigment colors who are fixated to the silk by ironing the fabric. Pigment colors can also be mixed with water and combined with other colors to create new colors. The colors can't be resolved again after they have dried.

When combining differnet colors one should use a pipett together with a palett or small jars with lids. You start with the lightest color and then add the other colors drip by drip.
